As speculated here weeks ago, the Rangers officially announced that they have signed 28-year old Russian winger Alexander Frolov. Newsday is reporting that the deal is one-year at $3 million.
The official release can be found here.
Frolov, an original first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings is one year removed from a stellar offensive campaign where he scored 32 goals and added 27 assists for 59 points in 77 games.
Last season, an off-year, he still managed to put up 19 goals and 32 assists for 51 points in 81 games.
Essentially, the Rangers have acquired a bigger form of former winger Nik Zherdev. The big question will be whether Head Coach John Tortorella can manage this situation better than the former.
Kings' Head Coach Terry Murray had publicly criticized Frolov for his lack of effort during the season, ultimately leading to his signing in New York.
