Weekend Roundup: Rangers Negotiating Two-Year Deal With Ruslan Fedotenko
+ more Jagr rumors, Nikita Filatov on the block, and the Flyers may get their goalie

The NY Post’s Larry Brooks reports that the Rangers are in discussions with pending UFA Ruslan Fedotenko about a new two-year deal.  The haggling is ongoing, but Brooks thinks the Rangers want to get Fedotenko signed before July 1.  Fedotenko fit like a glove with the Rangers this year after joining the team at training camp on a tryout.  Many figured the Blueshirts would be interested in keeping him on another one-year deal over Vinny Prospal, but that it appears that Fedotenko will get two years is a bit of a surprise.  The Rangers are fairly set on the wings going forward with Ryan Callahan, Brandon Dubinsky, Brandon Prust and Marian Gaborik locked in with the team and prospects like Chris Kreider, Christian Thomas, Mats Zuccarello and Evgeny Grachev probably on the way sooner than later.  Fedotenko plays left wing where the Rangers are weak, but their top prospects could fill those positions starting next year.  Fedotenko earned another go on Broadway, but he’s 32-years-old and it’s a little surprising that the Rangers are willing to sign him for more than one season.

- The Jaromir Jagr rumors continue to fly, but there don’t seem to be many that think he could realistically end up with the Rangers. The Daily News’ Jesse Spector reports that he’s been told Jagr will likely join the Montreal Canadiens.

- Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch reports that the Blue Jackets would be willing to move highly regarded forward prospect Nikita Filatov for a “fourth-round draft pick, a middling prospect or an aged veteran.”  That asking price is probably a little low even though Filatov has been a colossal disappointment thus far.  If Filatov could really be had for a fourth-round pick, that’d be a no-brainer for the Rangers and a host of other teams.  He’s looking like a bust, but Filatov had been considered one of the top-10 prospects in hockey for the last few years.  He’s been very slow to develop but still has the potential to turn into a star.  It would make sense for GM Glen Sather to phone Columbus as the draft approaches.

- No buyouts yet, but Wojtek Wolski’s situation is still in flux.

- Reports indicate that the Philadelphia Flyers are likely to sign Ilya Bryzgalov to a multi-year deal.  The implications of the signing could be significant as Philly is squeezed tight up against the cap already.  Rumors that Jeff Carter could be sent to Columbus continue to fly and it seems likely that the Flyers will be active at the draft.  If you consider Bryzgalov to be a big-time goalie, and many do, the image of him wearing orange and black going forward is a scary one.
