Live Blog: Rangers invade the Coliseum
Stay with us as we're blogging live from Madison Square Garden-East

Welcome fans to another edition of Blueshirt Bulletin's live game blog. Tonight, the Rangers take on the Islanders for their first matchup of the season. Last season, the Rangers took the series 5 - 1 .

As reported earlier, Marian Gaborik will not be in the lineup. P.A. Parenteau has been recalled from Hartford. Donald Brashear is also a scratch tonight as Artem Anisimov moves to center on the fourth line.

A few minutes away from the drop of the puck. Stay tuned!

7:11 - Game underway. Lundqvist in net.

7:12 - Early goal by the Islanders. Another missed coverage at the blue line leads to a breakaway by Matt Moulson.

7:16 - Rangers flat early. Islanders quick to the puck and winning every battle. This could be a long one.

7:24 - P.A. Parenteau scores in his first game as a Ranger off a nice pass by Dubinsky. 1 - 1 with a little over 11 minutes to go.

7:28 - Yankees game having an impact. Maybe 1/2 full arena.

7:32 - Lot of scrambling in front of the Rangers net. Defense having trouble picking up the opposing forwards down low. Still 1 - 1 with 7:00 to go.

7:37 - A questionable tripping call against Dubinsky leads to an Islanders PP. So far, Rangers have held them at bay.

7:44 - Getting a little chippy out there. Andy Sutton taking some liberties on Callahan and Prospal. Bergenheim then throws Kotalik into the net. Ranger s inexplicably get a penalty for too many men on the ice.

7:47 - Marc Staal hits the post at the buzzer. Period ends 1 - 1.

8:06 - Start of the second period, both teams continue to take the body.

8:08 - Anisimov has a great chance on a 2 on 1 but his spin-o-rama is gloved by Roloson.

8:15 - Islanders with strong forechecking get a few quick chances. Tensions are high as scraps are starting after most whistles.

8:18 - Callahan hits the side of the net on a wide open 2 on 1. The Rangers take advantage of an Islander without a stick and get a few great chances.

8:22 - Strong play from Park and the Islanders 4th line put pressure on the Rangers. Redden draws a penalty.

8:26 - End to end action on the Rangers PP leads to chances for both teams. Not the good Ranger PP we have seen over the past few games.

8:35 - Avery gets called for hooking, Islanders on the PP.

8:38 - Lundqvist makes a great save on Taveras but a quick rebound goal by Okposo beats Henrik on the following face-off. Islanders up 2-1 with 1:45 remaining in the second.

8:41 - End of Period 2. Islanders go into the locker room with a 1 goal lead.

8:59 - Start of the 3rd. Rangers draw a quick penalty. Not much happening in the first half of the man advantage.

9:02 - Big shot by Higgins but gloved and play stopped by Roloson.

9:06 - A dangerous hit from behind on Dubinsky from Sim goes unnoticed. Dubinsky gets right up and exchanges words with Sim.

9:15 - Poor passing from the pressing Rangers is leading to few scoring chances. The shots are coming from the outside but no Rangers to be found in front of the net.

9:22 - A good shift from Drury and Avery finally keep the puck in the Islanders zone for an extended period of time. Islanders time out.

9:24 - A "head-scratcher" of a play from Rosival leads to a Tavares goal. 3-1 Islanders.

9:28 - Avery draws a PP. Rangers must capitalize to make this interesting.

9:33 - Avery almost brings the Rangers closer but hits the post with 45 sec remaining. The fourth post of the game for the Blueshirts.

9:37 - The end of the game. The Islanders top the Rangers 3-1.

Another great post game comment by the invisibile team captain---"At the end of the day, we didn't play hard enough," added Chris Drury. "You've still got to play hard. You've got to play harder when your best player's out." This guy better start looking in the mirror and show something on the ice instead of coming up with these lame comments.
