Highlight Reel > Fasth scores in WJC bronze-medal game

What They’re Saying:

Elite Prospects  “Fasth is a very good skater with nice acceleration and top speed. He works very hard, forechecks with impressive intensity and also create a lot of offense thanks to his agility and speed. Has decent hockey sense, technical skills and scoring ability, but it perhaps still more likely to develop into a role player. Is not an overly physical player, but likes to play through rough traffic and does it pretty well.” – “He’s fast, extremely talented and actually a little like Ryan [Bourque]. Those guys aren’t huge [Fasth is 6-foot, 176 pounds; Bourque is 5-9, 164], but they certainly play big.” –fellow NYR prospect, Chris Kreider (Winter 2011)

RangerNation – “It seems that Fasth has the speed, size and skill to play in the NHL. He was one of the bright spots at the World Juniors… even though it was in Juniors you still love to see that a Rangers prospect “dominated”.” (Summer 2011) – “Less than 12 months after the Rangers went "off the board" to gain his NHL rights, Fasth is starting to shape up as a possible home-run pick. He turned in a remarkable 2010-11 season and played a starring role on Sweden's World Junior Championship team, where he and Erixon were teammates. Fasth, who got his final goal of the World Juniors in a bronze-medal game loss to Team USA at Buffalo on Jan. 5, ended up tied for the Swedish scoring lead with four goals and two assists in six games.

Fasth projects as a skilled, offensive forward with the potential to score a lot of goals. He possesses extreme speed and remarkable stick-handling skills which led to highlight-reel goals for HV-71's Swedish Elitserien team and the World Junior squad.” (Summer 2011)

Blueshirt Banter – “He has the ability to get around the defense and go end-to-end to create offense for his team. Right there that's an attribute that a lot of players don't have. Can he do it at the NHL level someday?  I think so, but I can tell you when you are playing against men over in Sweden, and you are still 19, that's pretty impressive. Last season for HV71 Jonkoping, he had 16 points in 36 games and he was a plus player.”

The 6-0, 176 pound winger is versatile. He can play either side and he was amazing on the power play last winter for Team Sweden and they ran a pro style power play. He was a point-per-game player in that tournament.

Another solid trait was the fact that he follows up his shots and gets second chance goals. He hangs around the net, he's not going to play in front of it, but he is always near it making plays.

He does play a solid two-way game and now he just has to get used to North American hockey. Whether that's this year, or next, remains to be seen.

The organization likes his work ethic and I think he has a very bright future. He shined at prospect camp and I would have to think he would get a look in camp when the Rangers officially report in the coming days.” (Sept. 14, 2011)

Hockey’s Future – [Ranks Fasth 8th among NYR prospects] “A very good skater, who has excellent hockey sense, Fasth has good offensive upside, while excelling on the forecheck.” (Sept. 27, 2011)

“Jesper Fasth has made the biggest leap in the organizational rankings of any player this season. Now in his third season in the Swedish Elite League, with HV71 Jonkoping, Fasth had an outstanding develop camp early this summer. When added to his excellent performance at the 2011 World Junior Championships (six points in as many games), and his great start to the 2011-12 season, in the SEL, Fasth is on the fast track to a Rangers' contract. Fasth is completing his final season under contract in Sweden and should compete for an NHL roster spot next fall. Fasth is a highly talented goal scorer, with excellent speed and good vision, along with competence on the forecheck. He is the kind of player who is not limited to a top six role, and therefore has a better chance of making the 2012-13 Rangers than some of the other highly skilled prospects.” (Sept. 27, 2011)

“Moving quickly up the list was Jesper Fasth, who put on a show in development camp this summer. Great hands, hockey sense, combined with speed was what we saw over and over again from Fasth. I see him as a second line winger, about two years away from NHL play. The question is whether there will be room for him, but he’s the kind of player, you make room for–he’s that good.” (Sept. 28, 2011)

Corey Pronman – [Ranks Fasth 6th among NYR prospects] “Fasth is a plus skater who accelerates very quickly and has a heck of a top gear. He can push the pace quite well and has the ability to rapidly change directions. He hustles hard on every shift, goes to the net with authority and gets back on defense very well. His defensive awareness is impressive, which should definitely allow Fasth to play a bottom role in the league. He has an above-average shot and has the ability to score from a distance.” (Aug. 2011)

“Over in Sweden, the leading scorer amongst NHL prospects is NY Rangers Jesper Fasth. EP has him at 4G and 9P in 7 games.” (Oct. 5, 2011)

“I'm personally a proponent of Fasth. Plus skater, great work ethic, good shot and a little bit of offensive puck skill.” (Oct. 5, 2011)

“Talked to one head scout on NY Rangers Jesper Fasth who said he looks like a potential second line player. Hype machine-- commence.” (Oct. 6, 2011)

Blueshirts United – “With members of the Rangers front office on hand Tuesday night in Stockholm, one of the organization's Swedish prospects, Jesper Fasth, had himself a career-best game. Fasth recorded a five-point night with one goal and four assists. He also notched a goal during the shootout as Fasth's HV-71 squad rallied from a 7-2 deficit in the third period to win 8-7 in a Swedish Elite League contest.” (Oct. 5, 2011)

Hockey Prospectus – “Fasth has gotten off to a tremendous start over in Sweden, and he's currently fourth in SEL scoring as of this writing. While it is still early on and a small sample, I talked to one NHL executive who has watched Fasth who said, "I originally thought he was just going to be a defensive type of player, but now I think he has a chance to be a second line forward." He's a plus skater with an above-average shot, a great work ethic and he's starting to show average prowess and sense with the puck. While the offensive skills outside the skating aren't overwhelming, the package in itself is enough to possibly project as a scoring forward in the league.” (Oct. 11, 2011)

Corey Pronman (via Twitter) – “2nd line fwd scoring wise with solid defensive value.” (Nov. 15, 2011)

Hockey’s Future – “Jesper Fasth has the potential to be the most successful European draft picks the Rangers have had in recent years. Currently skating with HV 71 of the Swedish Elite League, Fasth has good vision, excellent skating abilities, and can finish. Expected to play in North America as early as next season, Fasth has the potential to play on the second-line in the NHL.” (Nov. 15, 2011)

Hey there just wanted to give you a quick heads up. The text in your content seem to be running off the screen in Firefox. I'm not sure if this is a formatting issue or something to do with web browser compatibility but I thought I'd post to let you know. The style and design look great though! Hi! I know this is kind of off topic but I was wondering which blog platform are you using for this website? I'm getting fed up of Wordpress because I've had problems with hackers and I'm looking at alternatives for another platform. I would be awesome if you could point me in the direction of a good platform.

Throughout this awesome scheme of things you'll get a B+ just for hard work. Where you actually confused everybody was in the specifics. You know, they say, the devil is in the details... And that could not be more accurate at this point. Having said that, allow me tell you precisely what did give good results. Your writing is definitely rather persuasive and that is possibly why I am making the effort in order to comment. I do not really make it a regular habit of doing that. Second, even though I can easily see the jumps in reasoning you come up with, I am not convinced of exactly how you seem to connect your points which inturn produce your final result. For the moment I will, no doubt yield to your position but hope in the foreseeable future you actually connect your dots better.
