for contact, but there is still no timetable for his return.
- The Pittsburgh Penguins signed Chris Kunitz to a two-year,
$7.45 million contract extension.
- TSN’s Bob McKenzie lays out all the realignment
possibilities that could reshape the NHL next season.
- The Columbus Blue Jackets lost again, this time to the
Colorado Avalanche in a shootout. The
Blue Jackets are 0-for-20 on the power play this season but have given up four
goals in 15 shorthanded situations.
- Carolina edged Boston 3-2 and the defending Stanley Cup
Champions have gotten off to a slow start. The Bruins are now 1-3-0.
- Claude Giroux recorded a goal and two assists as the
undefeated Philadelphia Flyers beat the Vancouver Canucks, 5-4.
- The Minnesota Wild traded Eric
Nystrom to the Dallas Stars for future considerations. Dallas needed to add some salary to reach the
cap floor after Sean Avery was waived by the Rangers last week.
- Top New York Islanders prospect Kirill Kabanov sounds like
he’s heading overseas to
play in Europe.
- Brandon Saad was a rare second-round pick to jump straight
to the NHL in his draft year, but after starting the season on a line with
Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp for the Chicago Blackhawks, Saad has been sent back to the OHL.
- The Islanders sent 2011 fifth-overall pick Ryan Strome back to the OHL.
- The Carolina Hurricanes sent 2011 12th-overall
pick Ryan Murphy back to the
OHL.
- The Columbus Blue Jackets sent training camp surprise Cam
Atkinson to
their AHL affiliate, the Springfield Falcons.
- Hockey’s Future has released its
Top 50 prospects list for the fall. Tim Erixon, Ryan McDonagh and Chris Kreider made the list for the
Rangers.
- The announcement of a purchase agreement between Matthew
Hulsizer and the St. Louis Blues is
imminent.
- There are 10 games on the
schedule tonight, but none will be nationally televised. If you get the NHL Network, Washington vs.
Pittsburgh is on at 7:00 ET.
