The Bulletin Board keeps you abreast of the latest news
around the NHL Monday-Friday.
- Evgeni Malkin returned to action for the Pittsburgh
Penguins, who fell to the Washington Capitals in overtime. Pittsburgh got two goals from
James Neal, who now leads the league with four tallies.
- The big story from the game came in the third period when Aaron
Asham pummeled Jay Beagle in a fight and made some controversial taunting
gestures as he skated to the penalty box. Beagle was battered and bloodied and ended up pulling
his tooth out on the ice. Asham was apologetic
after the game.
- Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Sean O’Donnell turned
40-years-old yesterday, so his teammates left a walker
in his dressing room stall.
- John Tavares picked up four points in
the first period of last night’s 5-1 Islanders’ win over the Tampa Bay
Lightning.
- The two teams that met for the Stanley Cup last season –
Vancouver and Boston – have just two
wins in eight games to start the season.
- Miikka Kiprusoff became
the Calgary Flames’ all-time wins leader with last night’s 4-1 victory over
the Montreal Canadiens.
- Colorado continues to be an early season surprise. The Avalanche rocked the Ottawa Senators 7-1
to improve to 3-1-0. Colorado has given
up just six goals in four games after finishing dead last in goals against a
season ago. Ottawa, on the other hand,
has given up 21 goals in four games.
- It was a matter of time before these guys got hurt: Islanders goalie Rick DiPietro is out
indefinitely with a concussion, Martin Brodeur exited last night’s Devils’
game with upper
body soreness and Ales Hemsky did not play in the final two periods for the
Edmonton Oilers because he
had a sore shoulder.
- 2011 eighth-overall pick Sean Couturier is with
the Philadelphia Flyers to stay. He’s expected to move in with Danny Briere shortly.
- The Ottawa Senators reassigned disappointing prospect Nikita
Filatov to
Binghamton of the AHL.
- The New Jersey Devils reassigned Adam Henrique to Albany
of the AHL.
- USA Today’s Kevin Allen lists 10
early surprises from the 2010-2011 season.
- Check out this list of seven former NHLers still
playing in the minors.
