How far will the Rangers get this season?

Josh Harding picked up consecutive wins over the weekend as Minnesota continued to roll without Niklas Backstrom

Josh Harding picked up consecutive wins over the weekend as Minnesota continued to roll without Niklas Backstrom

The Bulletin Board keeps you abreast of the latest news around the NHL Monday-Friday.

- Minnesota won its fourth straight road game yesterday, beating Anaheim 5-3.  The Wild now possesses the best record in the National Hockey League at 17-7-3.  Minnesota has four more points than the Rangers, but has played for more games than New York.  Minnesota picked up consecutive victories this weekend despite playing without starting netminder Niklas Backstrom.

- Colorado snapped Detroit’s seven-game winning streak yesterday as the Avalanche topped its old rival 4-2 behind two goals from Ryan O’Reilly.

- Forward Mason Raymond returned to Vancouver’s lineup last night for the first time since breaking his back in Game Six of the Stanley Cup Finals.  Vancouver beat Calgary 5-1.

- Matt Moulson scored four times on Saturday to lead the New York Islanders past Dallas 5-4.  Moulson now has 13 goals on the season and believe it or not there are only 11 players with more goals than him since the start of the 2009-2010 campaign.  They are Steven Stamkos, Patrick Marleau, Alex Ovechkin, Corey Perry, Sidney Crosby, Jarome Iginla, Phil Kessel, Ilya Kovalchuk, Daniel Sedin, Marian Gaborik and Bobby Ryan.  Pretty good company.

- Ryan Miller returned for Buffalo on Saturday and led the Sabres to a 3-2 victory over Nashville.

- Evander Kane scored twice on Saturday to propel Winnipeg past New Jersey 4-2.  Kane has nine goals and three assists in his last nine games.

- Carey Price stopped 26 of 27 shots on Saturday to help Montreal end a four-game losing streak as the Canadiens beat Los Angeles 2-1.

- Boston beat Toronto for the second game in a row on Saturday, this time 4-1.  In two meetings last week the Bruins outscored the Maple Leafs 10-4.  Toronto goalie James Reimer returned to the lineup after sitting out six weeks with a concussion.

- Brooks Laich’s overtime-winner on Saturday gave Dale Hunter his first win as Washington’s coach.

- Pittsburgh sent Carolina to its sixth straight loss on Saturday as the Penguins edged the Hurricanes 3-2.  Sidney Crosby had only one assist in the game.

- St. Louis forward David Perron scored a goal on Saturday in his first game back in the Blues’ lineup.  Perron had missed 97 games with a concussion.

- Ryan Jones’ hat trick guided Edmonton past Columbus on Friday 6-3.

- Jaromir Jagr posted two goals and two assists in two games this weekend to give him eight goals and 13 assists on the season.

- There are rumors that Vancouver has dangled Roberto Luongo as trade bait, but unsurprisingly the Canucks haven’t found anyone interested in taking on his big contract.

- Ottawa and Columbus have had discussions regarding forward Derick Brassard.

- Los Angeles placed Mike Richards on injured reserve with an upper-body injury that is probably a concussion.

- Calgary defenseman Mark Giordano is out for three months with ruptured tendons in his leg.

- Montreal defenseman Andrei Markov will undergo another knee surgery and is expected to miss another three weeks.

- Islanders’ sophomore Nino Niederreiter suffered a concussion on Saturday, a day after recording his first goal of the year.

- Realignment will be the hot topic of the week as the NHL’s Board of Governors meets.  There are still several scenarios being tossed around.

- Here are Elliotte Friedman’s “30 Thoughts.”

- There are five games on the schedule tonight.  Phoenix @ Chicago will be on Versus at 8:00 p.m.
