Stepan Signs
Derek Stepan Inks New Deal

Ranger fans, get used to seeing this!

As of this afternoon, it looks as though Derek Stepan is going to remain a Ranger for at least the next two years (barring a trade.) Stepan signed his new deal this afternoon for $6.15 million over the next two seasons. Considering his contributions to the team, undeniable talent and still evolving game, the Rangers have got to be happy signing last year’s leading scorer.

Though young (Derek turned 23 during the 2013 season) Stepan has hit the ice and made an impact immediately. He’s been healthy consistently, and played in every game since his debut in the 2010-2011 regular season. Stepan’s averaged over .5 points per game every season, and even approached the 1.0 mark this season (allotting 44 points in 48 regular season games.) During the 2013 post-season, Stepan put up the game winners in games 3 and 4 of the opening round, and started the comeback in the third period of the lone win in the second round vs the Bruins.

Stepan proved how valuable he was in 2013 and wanted to be compensated appropriately for his value to the team. Ranger fans are all happy to see him back in Blue, with his best years in front of him. Now the Rangers can focus on the 2013-2014 regular season knowing the last restricted-free agent has signed a deal.
