How far will the Rangers get this season?

Toss Some Hats For The Duke
Hat Trick For Duclair to Start Season

Anthony Duclair (Quebec Remparts)

Just one New York Ranger prospect was in action on Saturday evening as Anthony Duclair (2013 3rd) let everyone know that he is back possibly even better than he was last season. Duclair recorded a hat trick to help his Quebec Remparts jump out to a 4-0 lead after two periods as they held on for a 4-3 win over the Rimouski Oceanic in QMJHL exhibition play.

Duclair did what he does best which is special team goals scoring two on the power play and one shorthanded during a 7:36 span of the second period. Duclair got on the board at 6:52 as his Remparts were on a rare 4 on 3 power play and gave Quebec a 1-0 lead.

Just 63 seconds later at 7:55 with the Remparts now on a 5 on 4 power play, Duclair made it 2-0 for his Remparts. Duclair just missed out on registering a natural hat trick but with his Remparts shorthanded, Duclair got his hat trick at 14:28 still in the second period and for Quebec a 4-0 lead.

It wasn’t a perfect game for Duclair but it was a good one as he was named the game’s “first star.” His stat line looks pretty solid with the 3-0-3 as he had 5 “dangerous” shots out of 9 shots total, a +1, two minor penalties (slashing, roughing on the same play) and he was 0-2 on his faceoffs.

Duclair is coming off a strong showing at Canada’s summer junior evaluation camp where he pretty much locked up a spot on Canada’s 2015 Under-20 team. If this was just a tease as to what to expect from Duclair between now and the Ranger training camp then training camp will be fun to watch.

Duclair can score and score in any situation there is no question about his offensive skill set. The questions now are about his defense and can his body handle the NHL physical play? Those two areas are why Duclair will most likely wind up in the QMJHL for the 2014-2015 season.
