Tuesday wasn’t only about the New York Rangers as their lone remaining junior prospect Ryan Graves (2013 4th) and his Val-d’Or Foreurs became the champions of the QMJHL. The Foreurs earned a trip to play in the Memorial Cup after they defeated the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in game 7 4-3 to win the championship final series 4 games to 3.

Ryan Graves didn’t score and the stay at home defender was busy all game along as the Drakkar dominated the game outshooting the Foreurs 43-22. Yet despite the huge edge in shots, it was the Foreurs who led the game for the most part as they held a 3-0 lead after 2 periods only to see the Drakkar rally to tie the game in the 3rd period.

The game was headed to overtime if not for a goal scored by the Foreur’s Anthony Mantha scoring his 24th goal of the playoffs with just 52 seconds remaining in regulation. Graves was a -1 with a holding penalty and 1 hit as he becomes a junior champion for the first time in his career.

Next up will be a Friday night matchup opening the Memorial Cup as the Foreurs will take on the host team the London Knights of the OHL.
